Don't Cut Anchor...

In the spirit of Thanksgiving how can we count our blessings without looking back over our lives. Whether you thank God or SpongeBob Square Pants, if it was not for yesterday's victories we could not stand in the light of today. With that -based on the premise of this blog. I write recalling a time a bad thing turned out, to be a good thing, for me that is.
If you are a faithful follower of The Swan That Swam Solo - you have read my experiences and feats regarding me and my buddy. We had been the best of pals since high school. I was somewhat an anchor in her life based on our background and talks. Anyone who may have such that type of friend I hope you know there's value in that. In other words, never cut anchor- if you truly deem them as grounding for your life. Here's why.
We were forever going places - so this is no different; a co-worker of her's was having a house-warming. She asked that I come along. We were the first of her guests; and per usual, I'm met with female disdain that women have been guilty of- for decades. We had never met- so I politely ignored it and sat as she showed my friend her new digs.
When they emerged from the back - I was told, they were going to the store to buy more wine- so stay and welcome guests should anyone arrive before they get back. I say ok, but didn't like it - first, she wasn't a gracious host to me and secondly, how am I to know who is legit as a guest and whose not?
So they went- took them a good while to return; in the meantime, no one showed up. About a week later, my friend said - "hey can I tell you something?" Sure, I said, "the night of the house-warming when we went to the store?" Yeah? "We went to buy weed- we saw a guy on the street, asked him where we could buy some? He said he had to show us- he got in the car, sat in the back and robbed us." Per usual, I was furious with her decision making- not so much for buying weed (It wasn't legal back then- LOL) but, for letting a stranger in the car and the back seat at that!
I get it, people can get tired of the anchor - What I get even the more - God blesses you from the seen and unseen. Everything that looks bad - isn't; because of my yesterdays, I'm grateful for TODAY. “The Lord will keep you safe. He will not let you fall into a trap” (Proverbs 3:26)
